While Sexual Assault Awareness Month has drawn close to an end, rape culture remains a battle that must be fought everyday. For years, there has been an internal debate within the activist community about the influence of pornography on sexual assault. One of the biggest arguments within the debate argues that pornography, particularly those of the BDSM nature, promote non-consensual sex. As pornography becomes more and more accessible to the general viewers, we at Project Consent believe in the importance of education before execution. Despite the fact that workers in the porn industry have frequently spoken up about the importance of consent, there still remains a gap between the audience and the producers. With the support of our followers and the permission of various porn companies, Project Consent would like to bridge that gap with a firm reminder that pornography should not be reenacted without express consent of your partner(s).

Starting May, Project Consent is launching an initiative to intermingle consent and the porn industry. By adding a slide of consent before performances, we hope to help porn companies remind their audiences that communication and permission must be granted before any sort of sexual encounter. We believe that the porn industry, as a collective whole, can take a step forward with us in ending rape culture by promoting proper education and explicit consent.

Inspired by our interview with adult film performer James Deen, we wish to bring the message of consent to more and more companies.  Project Consent highly encourage other porn companies in joining James Deen Productions by sending the same message to viewers. The initiative is not meant to shame the porn industry but rather yield their influence for a greater good. By promoting consent, we wholeheartedly believe that any company has the potential to help end the battle against rape culture. All companies who sign on with Porn For Consent will be applauded for their work in educating and promoting consent.

How can you help? Join us in reaching out to porn companies and express your wish for them to incorporate the message of consent. Remind them how vital it is that their viewers are taught the importance of consent before mirroring what they see on screen. Please remember to be courteous and informative in your communication. We do not tolerate or encourage the harassment of any production company on our behalf.
